G. V. Gopala Rao retired as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, after 35 years of service in the Indian Revenue Service (1985 batch). Across his career he held charge of corporate-tax circles, search and seizure operations, and charitable-trust assessments in some of India's most contested jurisdictions. He represented the Department in matters running into hundreds of crores and supervised investigation teams responsible for the country's largest searches in the IT/ITES, banking, automobile and real-estate sectors. He was nominated by the Government of India for advanced public-policy training at IIM Bangalore and Syracuse University. He now leads the Solutions.Tax practice at Expert Tax Solutions LLP, Hyderabad.
